Before you set off
Turn the key to "OFF" every time you park or stop for photos. Leaving the ignition on can drain the battery completely β help is very hard to find in remote Cao Bang.
If your bike has a Smart Key, DO NOT press any buttons on the remote. Keep it in your pocket and use the ignition knob to start/stop the bike.
Always fill up before heading out. Fuel stations are scarce on remote mountain roads.
Download Google Maps offline before leaving. Mobile signal can be very weak in mountain valleys.
If it rains, slow down significantly. Mountain roads become very slippery. Always carry your rain poncho β shops are rare on remote roads.
Gently beep before blind bends to alert oncoming traffic β a common and expected practice on mountain roads here.
Buffalo, chickens, and dogs often cross the road unexpectedly. Keep a moderate, steady pace β mountain curves are sharper than they look.
When parking, turn handlebars left and turn key to "LOCK" for better bike security.
